Bridget the Biker

Yep, it finally clicked for her. I think she had to be in the right (goofy, pre-bed time) mood, because she's had the balance from riding the Strider, as well as the pedal/braking know-how from another little bike - she just had to WANT to put them together!

Might as well take this opportunity to give a quick run-down of what we've been up to this last month, besides the usual mechanic work, farming help, laundry, dishes, cooking, cleaning, sleeping, etc:

- I've been putting a fair portion of my spare time into prepping for SCHOOL this fall (first time, and tutoring a class too! Can't blame me for wanting to be prepared!)

- We've finally replaced all the boards (including frame, joists, etc) of our back deck (thank you Loren!), and Randy and I keep noticing how strange it is to walk on a deck that's not squishy and doesn't wiggle. The railings aren't done, as we plan on getting some used patio doors for their tempered glass and creating a glass railing of sorts, for quality wildlife viewing. :) AND so we have practice doing that for future purposes.

- Randy finished a teamcycle (with a little of my help) and we've been riding a lot as a family.

- We brought that teamcycle to a Stilwell family reunion last week (Randy's mom's family) at Ironwood Springs Christian Ranch, and good time was had by all, I believe.
- Every once in a while, after a long day, we watch an episode of the Beverly Hillbillies for a few laughs.

- We've still been dreaming (and planning some) about building a shop AND a house on our land. We just decided (again!) on the locations of said buildings. The rough "blueprints" keep getting tweaked and more specific as we think more in depth and detailed about what we'll need/want. I gotta say, I'm really excited about my floor plans.

- Before school really hits in September, we'll visit my folks in Hartland, WI for about 5 days. Including a visit to my mom's mom OMI and her "new" digs (we've never seen the inside, or her in it!) And probably a visit to the zoo, and swimming fun!

- Still plugging away at J.I.Packer's Knowing God. And it's still really good. But I usually read it before bed, when my brain function isn't at its highest, so I need to backtrack and maybe something will really stick that I can share about.

  1. The video isn't working for me -- but yay, Bridget! Any tips on getting Aaron interested in biking? I have a Strider for him but can't even get him to try it. :(

  2. I think what gave Bridget initial interest was watching Teddy ride around (so, if Aaron has any buddies who pedal) AND her parents walking her around while she sat on the Strider seat and we both "steered". Bridget is the kind of kid who, in response to any encouragement in a specific direction, becomes more and more uncooperative. If Aaron is similar, tricks are needed! Like, not even suggesting that he try *the new thing,* but giving him the opportunity to observe others enjoying it long enough that he gets jealous and therefore interested. Other than that, not sure what to tell ya! He took a long time to decide to walk, he'll probably take a long time until he's just READY to bike.
