Pole Barn 10: Insulation, Electricity, odds and ends
One part of insulation was covering the
septic holding tank that's in the
ground. Much of it by hand... :)
Randy regularly checks the "free stuff" section on
Craigslist and found this metal bunk bed frame
from some guy running for office in Crosslake.
He assumed the kids were going to love it, and
we didn't disagree. We'll be using it for scaffolding.
It really helps to have an experienced (uncertified)
electrician in close ranks. Randy's dad "Pa"
helped a LOT, as Randy was largely responsible
for the roughed-in electrical work.
On a nice day with the tractor "Droofus" running
and a spare half hour, Randy started scraping the
area that the house will sit. As expected, the top
foot or so is junky, with campfire remains, garbage,
sawdust, and chunks of wood. Below that is HARD
sandy gravel/soil.
Mom, you would appreciate this. Look at
all those boxes and bins NOT THERE!
As the weather has brought winter, the well guys called and asked if we would bank a little hay around the well and the line that they still need to dig for us. This fall has gotten so cold so fast that our "new construction" project was pushed back as current residential needs were prioritized. Hopefully a distributed round bale from farmer friends will be enough to keep the ground from freezing TOO hard between now and Wednesday. The blue van is ours, by the way; we traded our little "old" 2001 Corolla for Randy's brother's "new" 1998 Sienna, which has a hitch. Now we have our own vehicle with a hitch and Randy could use his trailer to get the hay!
As the light waned yesterday, we FINISHED insulating
and started hanging vapor barrier, until it got too dark
to see the staples. Next week: more vapor barrier
and SHEETROCK!
